What You Will Do as a CAT Scan Technician

As a CAT Scan Technician, you will play a vital role in our radiology department. You will be responsible for performing a wide range of medically prescribed radiographic and Computed Tomography (CT) procedures. Your expertise will be crucial in utilizing advanced CT scanners to create detailed cross-sectional images of patients’ internal organs and tissues. These images are essential tools for physicians in diagnosing various medical conditions and planning effective treatment strategies.

Your daily tasks will involve:

  • Accurately interpreting physician’s orders and scanning instructions to ensure precise and effective procedures.
  • Administering contrast materials to enhance image clarity, following strict safety protocols.
  • Preparing and operating sophisticated CT scan equipment, maintaining its optimal performance and safety.
  • Expertly positioning patients to capture the most diagnostically valuable images while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Utilizing hospital and radiology information systems effectively, adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy.
  • Accessing patient data, scheduling examinations, and managing patient records within the HIS/RIS system.
  • Verifying and processing orders accurately, ensuring seamless workflow and minimizing errors.
  • Assessing patient status and medical information to tailor procedures appropriately.
  • Employing standard patient identification procedures to guarantee patient safety.
  • Reviewing patient requisitions and clarifying exam requirements with medical staff when necessary.
  • Adhering to established radiologic procedures and protocols, consulting manuals and references as needed.
  • Following special instructions and isolation precautions diligently.
  • Independently executing patient procedures in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Clearly explaining procedures to patients, addressing their concerns and ensuring their cooperation.
  • Problem-solving during examinations using technical expertise and adaptability.
  • Adjusting examination techniques to optimize image quality based on patient conditions.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in equipment setup, operation, and maintenance.
  • Performing quality control checks on radiographic equipment to ensure accuracy and safety.
  • Utilizing imaging and peripheral equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Reporting equipment malfunctions and ensuring timely repairs.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned to support the smooth functioning of the radiology department.

Qualifications to Start Your CAT Scan Career

To be considered for this CAT Scan Technician position, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Certificate from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
  • New York State license or temporary permit to practice Diagnostic Radiology.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART).
