Celebrating Community: SCAN Health Plan Volunteers Revitalize El Dorado Park West

In a vibrant display of community spirit and commitment to senior well-being, the Senior Care Action Network (SCAN) Health Plan marked its 40th anniversary with a dedicated Volunteer Day at El Dorado Park West in Long Beach. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine proudly hosted over 100 enthusiastic SCAN employees and their families, fostering a stronger connection between the health plan and the community it serves.

“Long Beach is not just where SCAN has thrived for four decades; it’s home to many of our dedicated employees,” stated Mayor Robert Garcia, acknowledging the deep-rooted partnership. “We deeply value this enduring relationship and extend our heartfelt congratulations to SCAN on reaching this significant 40-year milestone.”

The volunteers channeled their energy into enhancing the El Dorado Park West Community Center and its surrounding areas. With brushes and rollers in hand, they embarked on a mission to refresh and revitalize key park features. In an impressive two-hour burst of collaborative effort, the SCAN team successfully painted 70 trash cans, revitalized two backstops, breathed new life into the walls of the roller hockey rink, and gave five storage containers and the concession stand a fresh coat of paint.

SCAN CEO Chris Wing expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, “Giving back to the Long Beach community is integral to SCAN’s values. We were delighted when Councilwoman Stacy Mungo presented us with the opportunity to contribute to the El Dorado Park West Community Center.” He further added, “The dedication of SCAN employees and their families to refurbishing this park, a hub for senior activities, fills me with immense pride. This event not only provided a fun and engaging experience for our team but also beautifully reflected SCAN’s core mission and unwavering dedication to serving seniors through community action and health plan support.”

The results of the volunteer day are already making a positive impact. The community center and park now boast a revitalized and welcoming atmosphere, much to the delight of the regular users who frequent the center. The fresh, new look enhances the park experience for everyone, particularly the seniors who benefit from the center’s programs and services.
