How to Verify FarmaTag™ Hologram Authenticity on Pharmaceutical Products

The Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM) has implemented the use of holograms on registered pharmaceutical products since 2005 to help consumers ensure they are purchasing safe and authentic medications. Initially, the Meditag™ hologram was used from 2005 to August 31, 2019. Since September 1, 2019, KKM has transitioned to the FarmaTag™ hologram, issued by Techno Secure Print Sdn. Bhd., to further enhance security.

The FarmaTag™ hologram incorporates advanced security features visible to both consumers and pharmaceutical enforcement officers, allowing for quick verification of product authenticity. These physical characteristics are easily observable:

  1. Hologram Image: A distinct holographic visual.
  2. QR Code: For digital verification.
  3. Color Shift: Changes from blue to purple when tilted.
  4. Hologram Serial Number: Unique identification number.
  5. Hologram PIN Number: For online or app verification.
  6. Fluorescent Orange Color: Visible under UV light.

To further verify the authenticity of the FarmaTag™ hologram on product packaging, consumers can use decoders available at all licensed pharmacies and enforcement offices nationwide. Additionally, leveraging technological advancements, authenticity can also be checked online via the FarmaChecker mobile application. This app is available for free download on Google Play, the App Store, and Huawei AppGallery. This provides a convenient method on how to scan hologram and confirm product legitimacy directly from your smartphone.

Beyond hologram verification, consumers are also encouraged to check the product registration status on the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) website: www.npra.gov.my. This website allows for direct verification of product registration details. For any inquiries or further information, please contact the Pharmaceutical Enforcement Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia.
