Stamping PDF files is an efficient method to quickly inform reviewers about a document’s status, such as whether it has been approved, edited, or officially released. Foxit PDF Editor provides robust Stamp Tools that allow you to easily create and apply stamps, using both pre-made options and custom designs to add content and watermarks to your PDF documents.
Within Foxit PDF Editor, stamps can be either standard (static) or dynamic (automatically updating with information like name, date, and time from your system). This guide will focus on using standard stamps to enhance your PDF documents.

Applying a Standard (Static) Stamp to Your PDF
Foxit PhantomPDF supports a variety of image formats for stamps, including JPEG, GIF, BMP, and WMF, as well as PDF files themselves. You have the flexibility to select from a range of predefined stamps or design your own custom stamps before application. All stamps, whether imported or created, are conveniently accessible in the Stamp command’s dropdown menu and the Stamps Palette.
To apply a stamp from the existing selection, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Comment tab, then to the Stamps group, and click the Stamp button. From the dropdown menu that appears, choose the stamp you wish to use. Alternatively, you can go to Comment > Stamps > Create > Show Stamps Palette…. In the Stamps window, pick a category from the menu and then select your desired stamp.
- Your cursor will transform into a rectangle displaying a preview of the stamp. To place the stamp, simply click on the desired location on the document page. If you need to adjust the size and placement, drag a rectangle across the page to define the stamp’s area.
For applying the same stamp across multiple pages, right-click on the stamp and select Place on Multiple Pages…. In the dialog box, specify the page range where you want the stamp to appear and click OK. This streamlined process allows for quick and consistent stamping throughout your document.
Creating Your Own Custom Stamp
Foxit PhantomPDF also allows you to personalize your documents further by creating custom stamps. Here’s how to make your own:
- Go to Comment > Stamps > Create > Create Custom Stamp.
- In the Create Custom Stamp dialog box, click Browse… to select an image file or a PDF file that you want to use for your stamp.
- Either type a name for a new stamp category or choose an existing category from the dropdown menu. Then, give your new stamp a name and click OK.
By default, PhantomPDF creates stamps with transparency, making white backgrounds from your images see-through. You can easily adjust the opacity of the stamp image using the scrollbar in the settings to achieve the desired visual effect.
You can also quickly create a stamp directly from your clipboard:
- First, copy the image you want to use as a stamp to your clipboard.
- Then, choose Comment > Stamps > Create > Paste Clipboard Image as Stamp Tool.
- Simply position your cursor where you want the stamp and click to apply it.
If you require stamps that include dynamic information such as your name, current date, and even time, explore the features for creating custom dynamic stamps. These are designed to provide recipients with up-to-date context directly within your PDF documents.

By utilizing both standard and custom stamps in Foxit PhantomPDF, you can significantly enhance your document management and communication processes, ensuring clarity and professionalism in every PDF you share.
