I recently acquired a Solus Pro, believing it to be a reliable scan tool with future update potential. However, recent information suggests that updates for Solus Pro and similar models might be discontinued soon, possibly with version 17.2 being the last. I’m currently on version 14.4 and had hoped to have a couple of years to save for a final update. This news is disappointing, especially considering I invested in this scanner thinking of long-term use.
My immediate concern is a practical issue I encountered while diagnosing a P0498 code on a 2007 Honda Accord. Attempting to run an evap system test under the ‘functions’ menu, the Solus Pro unexpectedly shuts off when I turn the key to start the engine, as prompted by the tool. This occurs even when connected directly to the car’s 12V port. This issue prevents me from performing necessary tests that require engine start after the tool is connected. It’s puzzling why a diagnostic tool would power down during such a crucial step, limiting its functionality for various essential diagnostic procedures.
Having paid $300 for this Solus Pro, I’m now questioning its value. Not only am I facing potential obsolescence due to the update situation, but this engine start problem significantly hinders its diagnostic capabilities. It feels like the tool’s limitations are impacting its usefulness for even basic tasks, making me reconsider if this purchase was worthwhile given these unexpected challenges. Is version 17.2 indeed the final update for the Solus Pro, and is there a solution to the power issue when starting the engine for diagnostic tests?
