How to Scan Your Vaccine Barcode at Train Stations in Jakarta

Starting September 8, 2021, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) implemented a new policy requiring vaccine certificates for passengers using the Commuter Rail Line (KRL) in Jakarta and surrounding areas. This regulation ensures safer public transportation during the pandemic. Initially, there was a socialization period until September 10, 2021, where alternative documents like worker registration letters were still accepted. However, since September 11, 2021, showing a vaccine certificate has become mandatory to ride the KRL.

Passengers can present their vaccine certificates digitally through the PeduliLindungi application, or show a physical or digital copy. Along with the certificate, passengers must also show their ID card (KTP) for verification. This rule applies to KRL services in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi (Jabodetabek), as well as the Yogyakarta-Solo KRL and Prambanan Ekspres train.

For those unfamiliar with the process, here is a step-by-step guide on how to scan your vaccine barcode at the station using the PeduliLindungi app:

  1. Download and Register: Ensure you have downloaded the PeduliLindungi application on your smartphone and have created an account. This app is essential for accessing public spaces and services in Indonesia during the pandemic.

  2. Scan the Station QR Code: Upon arriving at the station, locate the QR code provided at the entrance. These are usually prominently displayed for easy access.

  3. Open the ‘Scan QR Code’ Feature: Open the PeduliLindungi application and find the ‘Scan QR Code’ feature on the main page. Tap this feature to activate your phone’s camera for scanning.

  4. Point Your Phone at the Barcode: Direct your smartphone’s camera towards the QR code displayed at the station entrance. Make sure the barcode is clearly visible within the scanning frame.

  5. Check the Indicator Light: After scanning, the application will display an indicator light – green, yellow, or red. A green light typically indicates that you are cleared to enter, meaning your vaccine status is verified. Follow the station petugas’ instructions based on the indicator displayed.

  6. Check-In: If your status is verified (usually indicated by a green light), you have successfully checked-in at the station. This process allows your Commuter Line journey to be tracked within the PeduliLindungi system. There is no need to scan again when you arrive at your destination station.

By following these simple steps, passengers can easily comply with the new regulations and ensure a smooth and safe journey on the Jakarta Commuter Rail. Remember to have your PeduliLindungi app ready and your vaccine certificate accessible before arriving at the station to expedite the process for everyone.
