SCAN Health Care Long Beach Volunteers Revitalize El Dorado Park West in Community Service Day

Long Beach’s El Dorado Park West received a significant boost thanks to the dedicated volunteers from SCAN Health Plan, also known as SCAN Health Care Long Beach. To commemorate SCAN’s 40 years of service, over 100 employees and their families joined forces in a volunteer day organized by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine.

Mayor Robert Garcia acknowledged the long-standing relationship between SCAN and the city. “Long Beach has proudly served as SCAN’s home for all 40 years, mirroring the homes of many of its employees,” he stated. “This partnership is invaluable, and we extend our congratulations to SCAN on reaching this significant milestone.”

The volunteers focused their efforts on enhancing the El Dorado Park West Community Center and its surroundings. In an impressive two-hour span, the teamSpring painted an array of park features, including 70 trash cans, two backstops, the roller hockey rink walls, five storage containers, and a concession stand, injecting a fresh, vibrant feel into the park amenities used daily by the community.

SCAN CEO Chris Wing expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute to Long Beach. “Giving back to the Long Beach community is a core value at SCAN, and Councilwoman Stacy Mungo’s invitation to revitalize the El Dorado Park West Community Center was perfectly aligned with our mission,” Wing commented. “The dedication of SCAN employees and their families to refurbishing this vital community space, especially the bustling senior center within the park, is truly commendable. It was a day of fun and camaraderie, deeply rooted in SCAN’s commitment to serving seniors.”

The revitalization efforts have visibly refreshed the community center and park, much to the delight of regular visitors. The rejuvenated facilities offer an improved and more welcoming environment for all park users, especially the seniors who frequent the center.
